Painting is one of the easiest ways to give your home a fresh look

Painting is easy and the least expensive ways to give your home the fresh look you have been looking for. With a quick coat of paint an otherwise dull room can get a whole new look. It is a simple project. Here are some tips to get started.

1. Check the garage to see what you have for paints from that last project. You never know there just might be a color that you would like to use. Bring the can to your local hardware store and ask them to give it a spin and check the paint to make sure it is still good to use.
2. Buy a top-quality nylon/polyester filament brush for latex or a China bristle for oil paint.
3. Once you have found or bought the paint and proper brushes, tape off the edges with painting tape that you can get at your local hardware store. Pour some of the paint in a small coffee can (make sure its clean) and get to work cutting in.
4. First Cut around the ceiling, doorways, windows and trim. If your working alone cut in only an area that is as large as you can cover before it dries.
5. Its time to roll. Apply that paint immediately after cutting in. Apply the paint in a W pattern then go over it with vertical rolls to blend it all in and avoid lap marks. be sure to work the edges to avoid creating “borders”. Depending on the color you will most likely need two coats.

A few helpful tips:
Always use a new brush
Use a lid when painting over head to catch those drips
Pour leftover paint from a job into a milk jug
Keep track of your color schemes by creating a color pallet on a paint stick
Take a deep breath and blow over the top of can of paint after opening this will get rid of any CO2 and help prevent a skin from forming.
